Revolutionizing Indian School Education: NCF-SE Unveiled for Holistic Learning

New Delhi, August 23rd: Steps are being taken to ensure the availability of new, plagiarism-free textbooks for Classes 3 to 12 in the upcoming academic year. These textbooks will be designed in harmony with the principles of the Indian knowledge system and contemporary 21st-century requirements, aiming to strike a balance between tradition and innovation, as stated by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday.

These statements were made during the unveiling of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). The development of this framework was guided by the vision to align education with the needs of the modern era while respecting the essence of India's traditional knowledge system.

The Education Minister emphasized the role of this framework in shaping a comprehensive, current, and culturally rooted educational environment. He noted, "It will revolutionize assessment methods, including examinations. Assessments and exams at all tiers will undergo a transformation to facilitate authentic learning, reduce stress, and even transform board exams."

Under the guidance of Prof. K Kasturirangan, a Steering Committee was established to create a curriculum in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020. The framework is based on the 5+3+3+4 schooling structure, comprising the Foundational Stage, Preparatory Stage, Middle Stage, and Secondary Stage.

The Education Ministry stated that the curriculum draws its essence from India, incorporating the wealth of Indian knowledge and perspectives on education across various disciplines. Contributions of Indians from ancient to contemporary times in different fields of knowledge have been integrated into the educational objectives of all subjects.

The NCF-SE revitalizes subjects such as Art Education, Physical Education and Well-being, Environmental Education, and Vocational Education. It also places renewed focus on Multilingualism, conceptual understanding in Mathematics, and nurturing scientific inquiry skills.

The ministry highlighted that the NCF-SE is designed to facilitate tangible transformation in real-world educational practices. It promotes engaging and effective teaching methodologies suitable for different ages and contexts, ranging from play-based and activity-based approaches to inquiry-based and dialogue-based methods.

Furthermore, the ministry emphasized the enhanced significance of Art Education and Physical Education, including well-being. Art Education encompasses both visual and performing arts, with equal attention given to creation, contemplation, and appreciation of artworks. Physical Education and Well-being prioritize sports, holistic wellness through practices like Yoga, and the integration of traditional Indian games into the curriculum.

Addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, Environmental Education is emphasized throughout all educational stages within this framework.

The NCF-SE incorporates specific learning standards, content, teaching methodologies, and assessments for Vocational Education at all schooling levels, as stated in the provided quotes and statements.
