What is CUET?
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a nationwide entrance examination organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It serves as a unified gateway for students aiming to enroll in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs across a variety of Central, State, and private universities in India.

What is NTA?
The National Testing Agency is known to be established by the Ministry of Education (MoE) as an independent and autonomous testing organization.
The National Testing Agency is well known for conducting efficient, transparent, and reliable entrances/tests to assess candidates to get admission to top higher education institutions. The NTA further also conducts various employment exams in different departments of the Govt. of India.
Major NTA examinations include JEE, NEET, CMAT, NET, CUET UG, and CUET PG.
CUET Exams for Psychology
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a crucial exam for students aspiring to pursue a Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc in Psychology) or a Master’s degree (MA/MSc in Psychology). CUET-UG Psychology
The CUET-UG exam is mandatory for admission into all central universities in India, with several state and private universities also considering it for entry into undergraduate programs. Eligibility: Candidates should have either completed or be appearing for their Class 12 (or equivalent) exam from a recognized board.
Application Process: The CUET-UG application must be submitted online via the official NTA website, where students need to provide their academic and personal details.
Exam Pattern: CUET-UG Psychology
Mode of Exam: The CUET-UG exam is conducted in a hybrid format, offering both Pen & Paper and Computer-Based Test (CBT) modes.
Medium of Test: The exam is available in 13 languages, including Hindi and English.
Number of Questions: Candidates are required to answer 40 out of 50 questions in the language or domain-specific tests, and 50 out of 60 questions in the general test.
Choice of Test Papers: A student can select up to 6 test papers. It is important to choose these test papers carefully, considering the admission requirements of the university or college they wish to apply to.
The combination of tests varies by institution. For example, the University of Delhi requires candidates to take 4 tests—1 language test and 3 subject tests based on their 12th-grade subjects. On the other hand, many universities require a language test and a general test for admission to BA or BSc Psychology programs.

Language Section
The Language Section will include questions based on the following topics:
- Reading Comprehension: Passages will be of three types (300-350 words each):
- Factual
- Narrative
- Literary
- Verbal Ability
- Rearranging Sentences
- Selecting the Correct Word
- Synonyms and Antonyms
- Vocabulary
General Test Section
The question paper will feature questions from the following topics:
- General Knowledge
- Current Affairs
- General Mental Ability
- Numerical Ability
- Reasoning (including basic mathematical concepts such as Quantitative Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, and Statistics)

Unit I: Variations in Psychological Attributes
The unit aims at studying how people differ with respect to their various psychological attributes.
Individual differencesin human functioning; Assessment of psychological attributes;Intelligence:
Individual differences in intelligence; Theories of intelligence; Culture and intelligence; Special
abilities: Aptitude — nature, and measurement; Creativity; Emotional intelligence.
Unit II: Self and Personality
This unit focuses on the study of self and personality in the context of different approaches in an
effort to appraise the person. The assessment of personality will also be discussed. self-esteem,
self-efficacy, and self-regulation; Culture and self; Concept of personality; Major approaches —
Type and Trait, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Behavioural, Cultural; Assessment of personality: Self-
report measures, behavioural analysis, and projective measures.
Unit III: Meeting Life Challenges
This unit deals with the nature of stress and how responses to stress depend on an individual’s
appraisal of stressors. Strategies to cope with stress will also be dealt with.
Nature, types and sources of stress; Effects on psychological functioning and health; Coping
with stress; Promoting positive health and well-being.
Unit IV: Psychological Disorders
This unit discusses the concepts of normality and abnormality and the major psychological
disorders. Concepts of abnormality and psychological disorders; Classification of disorders;
Factorsunderlying abnormal behaviour; Major psychological disorders – Anxiety, Somatic,
Dissociative, Mood, Schizophrenic, Developmental and Behavioural-Substance use related.
Unit V: Therapeutic Approaches
The unit discusses the goals, techniques, and effectiveness of different approaches to treating
psychological disorders.
Nature and process of therapy: Therapeutic relationship; Types of therapies: Psychodynamic,
Humanistic, Cognitive, Behaviour and Bio-medical; Alternative therapies — Yoga, Meditation;
Rehabilitation of mentally ill.
Unit VI: Attitude and Social Cognition
This unitfocuses on the formation and change of attitudes, cultural influences on attributional
tendencies,and conditions influencing pro-social behaviour.
Explaining social behaviour: Impression formation and explaining behaviour of othersthrough
attributions; Social cognition; Schemas and stereotypes; Nature and components of attitudes;
Attitude formation and change;Behaviourin the presence of others;Pro-socialbehaviour;Prejudice and
discrimination; Strategies for handling prejudice.
Unit VII: Social Influence and Group Processes
The unit deals with the concept of the group, its functions, and the dynamics of social influence
on conformity, obedience, and compliance. Different conflict resolution strategies will also
be discussed.
Conformity, Obedience, and Compliance; Cooperation and Competition; Nature and formation
of groups; Types of groups; Social identity; Influence of the group on individual behaviour; Inter-
group conflicts; Conflict resolution strategies.
Unit VIII: Psychology and Life
The unit focuses on the application of psychological understanding to some important social issues.
Human-environment relationship; Environmental effects on human behaviour: Noise,
pollution, crowding, natural disasters; Promoting pro-environmental behaviour; Psychology and
social concerns: Aggression, Violence, and Peace, Discrimination and Poverty, health, the
impact of television on behaviour.
Unit IX: Developing Psychological Skills
The unit deals with some effective psychological and interpersonal skills for facilitating personal-
social development.
Effective psychological skills: Observational skills, Interviewing skills, Testing skills, Counselling
skills — empathy, authenticity, positive regard, and Communication skills — listening.
